About this event

Alone, Fly Fishing Adventures in Alaska

Keith Campbell will regale us with his extraordinary journey to Alaska. He recounts the thrilling experience of being dropped off alone by bush plane in the remote wilderness, where he embarked on a camping, fishing, and bear-avoiding adventure. He will also share some of his captivating experiences during his frequent drives back and forth to Alaska, as well as his adventures as a Kenai River fishing guide. Keith’s transformation from a mild-mannered college professor to a hard-core fly-fishing guide promises to be an entertaining and inspiring tale.

Keith, a passionate fly fisherman, first fell in love with the White River in 1959. His father took him there to teach him the art of worm fishing, and despite living in neighboring states, Keith has been a regular visitor to this fly-fishing paradise ever since. In 1986, during his first trip to Alaska, he felt an irresistible pull and decided to establish residency. He purchased five acres of land in the wilderness, settled in, and became a fishing guide on the Kenai River.

After retiring from his job as a university professor in Kansas, Keith transitioned into casting instruction and fly-fishing guiding on the White River. He has authored two books on his experiences: Fly Fishing the White River: The Guides Speak and A Fly Fishing Life on the White River and in Alaska” Currently residing in Bull Shoals, Keith can be reached at whiteriverdrift@gmail.com.
